Sea Buckthorn Kombucha - The Taste of the North

Sea Buckthorn Kombucha - The Taste of the North

Everyone knows the bright orange-red berries of the sea buckthorn growing wild along the Baltic coast. But sea buckthorn is not only a northern German treasure - it originally comes from the Himalayas, and has been cultivated commercially since the 1980s, becoming especially popular in Northern Germany.

Why sea buckthorn?

Sea buckthorn is best known from jams and sauces, and it brings something we had not tasted in a kombucha before: a sharp, fresh-citrus tartness with a distinctive bitter edge, and that unmistakable orange colour. It is a berry with real character, which is exactly what we look for.

Our inspiration

After a trip to the North Sea, where we ate a slice of homemade sea buckthorn cake, we had the idea of combining sea buckthorn with kombucha. The flavour and the colour won us over immediately.

Our Sea Buckthorn Kombucha

Following our Grapefruit-Szechuan, this became our second signature variety - and in 2025 it won Gold at the World Kombucha Awards. Because sea buckthorn contains fruit oil, give the bottle a gentle shake before pouring.

Try it and taste the north.
