Who doesn’t know the delicious, orange-red berries of the sea buckthorn, growing wild along the Baltic coast?
But sea buckthorn isn’t just a local treasure – it actually has its roots in the Himalayas. Since the 1980s, it has been cultivated commercially and has become especially popular in Northern Germany.
Why sea buckthorn?
Sea buckthorn isn’t only known for its delicious jams and sauces – it’s also packed with health benefits.
It beats lemons by far in vitamin C content and contains beta-carotene, which converts into vitamin A in the body. Vitamin E supports digestion, while potassium and magnesium have a positive effect on muscles and the nervous system.
Our inspiration
After a trip to the North Sea, where we enjoyed a slice of homemade sea buckthorn cake, we came up with the idea of combining sea buckthorn with kombucha. The mix of healthy nutrients, unique flavour, and bright colour instantly won us over.
